about

I am Remi Gene Lever.

A First Class BA (Hons) Costume Graduate of Arts University Bournemouth (AUB).

Winner of the Highly Commended Award for The Costume Society’s 2023 Patterns of Fashion Award with my historically accurate re-creation of Janet Arnold’s 1660s bodice pattern.

My Influences

Born and raised in Hong Kong, and fortunate enough to travel extensively from an early age, I have been exposed to myriad global cultures. I became fascinated in the different styles of traditional, historical and contemporary clothing worn around the world, and the ways in which differing styles of clothing could tell a multitude of stories and create a variety of moods.

These experiences translated into a love of all things “costume”, influencing my chosen field of study, and inspiring me to strive for a career in the world of costume design and making.

My Studies

In my time at AUB’s world-renowned campus, I have been fortunate enough to gain experience and knowledge in both Costume Interpretation and Costume Design.

Historical costume is what truly fascinates me. I have been trained in many aspects of historical menswear and womenswear, including traditional tailoring techniques. Alongside the practical, my love of research has grown extensively and I have ample knowledge of different time periods, helping to focus my making skills on historical accuracy and attention to detail.

Other than expanding my creative practice, I am well-versed in project management, teamwork, budgeting and time management having worked collaboratively at AUB with creatives from other disciplines – including film, photography, make-up, acting and fine art – on a variety of projects.

My Passions

I’m an avid reader and consumer of film. I love music and dance, especially live performance. And travel will always be in my DNA.
